The National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Amenfi Central constituency has suspended four of its executives for anti-party conduct.

The four executives are the Constituency Chairman, Organizer, Women’s Organizer and Deputy Women’s organizers. This comes after they sued the parliamentary candidate Joana Gyan Cudjoe for alleged forgery of the party’s membership card.

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy National General Secretary of the NDC said if the suspended executives had issues with the process that elected Joana Gyan as Parliamentary Candidate, they didn’t have to wait for the processes to complete before heading to court.

“If anybody has a problem with the process that elected her as a parliamentary candidate in that constituency, why did the person wait and we have gone through all the processes, finished the elections swore her in as the parliamentary candidate, trained her and prepared her for the final election then you are in court to say that you have a problem with the processes that elected her as a parliamentary candidate?” Mustapha Gbande stated.

He said the party would respect the court’s decision but would continue to clean the Amenfi Central of anti-people as they prepare for the December general elections.

It is “a calculated attempt to hold the party’s interest to ransom. But the party will respect the ruling of the court. We are looking further and any other person whose conduct will also constitute misconduct under the constitution will follow suit until we clean that constituency and prepare it for the 2024 elections.”

Meanwhile, the internal turmoil in the party led to the postponement of a planned one-week community engagement that was scheduled to run from late May through early June.

Also, the NDC has appointed Joana Gyan as the Chair of the Presidential Campaign Committee in Amenfi Central. Reacting to her appointment, the accomplished mining executive said she is ready to ensure Amenfi Central delivers for John Mahama and the party.

“I am fully prepared to fulfil my duties and responsibilities. My commitment to the people of Amenfi Central and the NDC is unwavering. This is a labour of love for the good people of Amenfi Central and the great NDC party.

“I will work tirelessly to secure a resounding victory for the NDC and provide the leadership that Amenfi Central deserves. Together, we will achieve our mandate,” Joana Gyan stated.
