Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae has responded to critics following her performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where she proudly showcased Ghanaian music on the global stage.

While many fans and fellow musicians, including rapper Sarkodie, praised her energetic set, others took to social media to question her silence on pressing national issues, such as illegal mining. Critics also challenged the sincerity of her professed love for Ghana, which she expressed passionately during her performance.

Addressing the backlash in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on April 14, Amaarae said she rarely responds to such comments but felt compelled to this time.

“Can’t please everybody unfortunately… Last night I gave my heart and soul to a cause I’ve worked towards my whole entire life and I’m elated with the result,” she wrote. “I’ve used my voice various other times & as always, people don’t have all the info but it is what it is.”

She continued: “Today on the biggest stage of my life I used my voice the loudest it’s ever been! I love Ghana no matter what, so whether you hate it or love it… I’m still gonna rep it.”

During her Coachella set, Amaarae celebrated Ghanaian music by performing her own songs alongside hits from other Ghanaian acts including Joey B’s “Stables,” “Sore” by the Asakaa Boys, “Godzilla” by La Même Gang, and Eazzy’s “Wengeze.”

The first weekend of Coachella 2025 took place from April 11–13, with the second round scheduled for April 18–20.
