The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has stated that they would step up strategies to increase revenue collection in the sub-metros under their jurisdiction.

According to them revenue collected is the main source of funding for developmental projects therefore there is the need for them to find ways of reaching their targets in revenue collection.

This was made known by the Metropolitan Development Planning Director, Richard Kwame Oduro at the Town Hall meetings instituted by the Assembly to solicit for opinions for the Assembly’s Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) between the years 2018-2021.

The first of the series of the meetings were held at the Ayawaso Central, West and East.

A look at the sub-metro’s revenue collection for 2015 was about GH₵972,000 but saw a decline in the year 2016 at about GH₵848,000.

This according to Mr Oduro could be attributed to apathy and also non-payment of property tax therefore the Assembly would pay more attention to the revenue collection agents to reach their targets for the year.

The AMA has begun a stakeholder consultation for the implementation of the MTDP. This is in accordance with the 40year long term National Development Policy Framework which spans between the years 2018-2057.

The development planning system recognises community participation as an essential and integral part of effective development planning.

Participants were drawn from representatives from the various assemblies within the catchment area.

Mr Oduro said the engagement serves as a medium of presenting progress of physical and non-physical interventions within the plan implementation period.

He added the objective of the Town Hall meetings were aimed at soliciting comments, problems, challenges and prioritising them for developmental projects as inputs to the MTDP.

He noted that the AMA would replicate the exercise in all the other 10 sub-metros under their jurisdiction.
