Ghanaian US-base member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu has tendered in his resignation from the party saying, his stands on “demanding justice, transparency, and accountability from the current NPP government” cannot permit him to continue to be a member of the party hence, his “peaceful exit to concentrate on his family and mining profession”.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the NPP sighted by Awake News, his immediate resignation from the party has been reached after a meeting with his family where many concerns were raised with respect to his affiliation with the NPP and after “careful consideration of their displeasure”, he has no option than resign with “immediate effect”

According to Mr. Owusu, he has been a committed and good standing member of the NPP since 1993 from Obuasi Constituency through his University days at KNUST School of Mines, now University of Mines and Technology to Califonia in the USA where he served as Deputy Secretary from 2014 to 2018.

He has, however, said “I believe my resignation will not have a significant impact on the party but I think it will be conflicting to remain in the party henceforth, as I have decided to criticize the NPP government on matters that negatively affect the citizens of the nation”

If readers can recall, Mr. Solomon Owusu in series of videos referred to himself as Citizen Vigilante @ Large and heard criticizing the government on some decisions taken in the mining sector, which he thinks are not in the best interest of the nation. Notable among them are the government’s handling of Anas’ “Galamsey Fraud” investigation case, Aisha Huang deportation without prosecution and lack of effective implementation of the fight against galamsey.

Mr. Solomon on Friday, September 20, 2019 at a forum in Princeton University in USA questioned President Nana Akufo-Addo on reseasons behind Aisha Huang’s deportation despite been charged with criminal offenses, including  undertaking small-scale mining operations, contrary to Section 99 (1) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703); providing mining support services without valid registration with the Minerals Commission, contrary to the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and the illegal employment of foreign nationals, contrary to the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).

Again, Mr. Owusu asked the President about the sources of the over 2 million ounces gold exported from the small scale mining in Ghana in the year 2018 when there was a ban on small scale mining in Ghana.

According to him, Bloomberg’s report in 2018 showed that the nation exported about 2 million ounces of gold worth approximately $2.6 billion from small-scale ming operations.

In the president’s response, he said he had no idea about that worth of gold export from small scale mining and, hence, he would investigate.

However, President Akufo-Addo in his response said, he thinks it was a mistake for the government’s decision to deport the Galamsey Queen.

“I think the decision to deport Aisha Huang in hindsight was a mistake and that is why that process and procedure is being stopped” – The President said at the Forum

The following day, although the President answered his questions the previous day, Mr. Owusu who looked unsatisfied with the President’s answers, booked to attend the next forum to ask President Akufo-Addo further questions but was however, blocked by the bodyguards from entering the auditorium, even though he got approval to attend the forum.

Forcing him to create a scene, in a viral video, Mr. Solomon Owusu said “Macho men from Ghana told me they have been instructed not to allow me to enter the conference hall”
