All is set for the Ghana Hockey Association elections on Saturday, July 7th to select leaders who will steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.
Fifteen (15) delegates, made up of representatives from the various security agencies, regionals association, the Ghana Education Services and technical officials are expected to vote on Saturday as the association looks to build on past successes.
The position of the President, is being contested by Amo Godfred and Dr Ben KD Asante of the Ghana National Gas Company.
[ads1]A former national player himself, Dr KD Asante has risen through the ranks in hockey, winning many accolades for his contribution to the growth of the sport in the country. Earlier this year, he was honoured by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana for his meritorious service to the country’s sports.
He is currently the chairman of the Citizens Hockey Club and a board member of the Ghana Hockey Association.
Dr Asante hopes to move the sport from the unfortunate tag of ‘least finance sport’ to a discipline that rated highly in the country and beyond. His administration will be anchored on the three pillars namely Development of Personnel, Development of facilities and facilitation of financial support which is in line with the delegates desire for a leader who will commit himself to the development of infrastructure for the sport.
Elizabeth King and Kwame Owusu are the two personalities vying for the Vice Presidential spot. The Treasurer and other executive positions are also up for grabs.
