The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has pledged to ensure that the six hotels SSNIT is selling to the Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong remain the property of Ghanaians.
He said, “SSNIT and the Presidency contemptuously ignored this 2022 protest from the venerable Omanhen of the Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Condua VI, and continued with the sleazy and unconscionable deal to sell Ghana’s treasured hotels to the Minister of Agric”.
He added that SSNIT has failed to respond to the key issues raised in his petition to CHRAJ.
“Even as SSNIT fails to respond to the constitutional and fundamental issues raised in my CHRAJ petition on the sale of Ghana’s hotels to Bryan Acheampong, more documents are emerging about the repugnant levels of arm-twisting and utter disregard for due process,” the lawmaker said.
Ablakwa added, “No matter what it takes, we shall make sure these 6 hotels remain the valuable properties of all Ghanaians and not one NPP politician”.
The North Tongu MP also published a letter addressed to SSNIT by the Edina Traditional Council on whose land the Busua Beach Resort is situated reminding SSNIT of the ownership of the land. In the letter, the Omanhen asked for all parties to sit down and resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, SSNIT in its response to the petition to CHRAJ said it will pause processes to sell the hotels until CHRAJ is through with its work, It, however, said selling the hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel is in the best interest of the country.
SSNIT added that “Rock City Hotel submitted the best and strongest technical and financial proposal amongst those received. Consequently, it is in negotiation with SSNIT to buy a 60% stake in each of the four (4) hotels (Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel and Elmina Beach Resort).”
