John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused President Akufo-Addo of implementing all the measures outlined in the controversial ‘Agyapadie’ document.
The 38-page document published by Awake News in November 2020, which has circulated widely, purportedly details a scheme by Akyem block of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exploit state assets for personal gain.
At the Ghana Report Summit on August 1, 2024, President Akufo-Addo dismissed the document as a baseless attempt to undermine his “credibility and integrity.”
However, in a response during a durbar with chiefs and queen mothers at the Bawku Naba’s palace in the Bawku Central constituency of the Upper East Region, where Mahama launched his 2024 election campaign, Mahama stood by the document’s authenticity. He claimed that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has indeed implemented the strategies described in it.
Mahama stated, “Recently, there was controversy surrounding a document called Agyapadie, which was labeled as fabricated. But regardless of its origins, the fact is that everything outlined in that document has been put into practice. If someone did fabricate it, then they must have had an extraordinary ability to predict the actions of President Akufo-Addo and his family. Because everything in that document has come to pass, proving that the implementation is very real.”
