Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has blamed the Akufo-Addo government for neglecting the presidential jet. According to him, the aircraft is currently unserviceable, with a corroded fuel tank.
In a Facebook post on Friday, May 23, Dr. Boamah revealed that the jet remains grounded abroad for extensive repairs.
He made this statement after members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang of chartering a private jet from the UK. She had been on medically induced leave.
Dr. Boamah dismissed their claims and redirected public attention to the condition of the presidential jet.
“The NPP, which suffered a humiliating defeat in the last election, should know this,” he wrote. “The Akufo-Addo administration ran down the presidential jet. Its fuel tank is even corroded.”
He added that the aircraft has been undergoing maintenance, repairs, and overhaul abroad. “It may be usable after three months of therapy,” he said. “For now, the jet is unfit for use.”
