NDC Parliamentary primaries aspirant for Akatsi North Constituency and Aide to former President Rawlings, Dr. Donald Agumenu has denied claims by the Constituency party executives that he [Dr. Agumenu] is using military officers to assault his opponents.
The Constituency leadership in a statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Richard Awudza yesterday said “We are very displeased to announce to you that the actions of a special aide to Fmr. President Jerry John Rawlings, and some military officers he brought to the Akatsi North Constituency to distort the peace of the District/Constituency”.
The press statement also gave accounts of how Dr. Agumenu traced and attacked the campaign team of his opponent Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, while they were campaigning at one of the branches in the Constituency.
“On Monday 12th August, while the Member of Parliament for the Akatsi North Constituency, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe was on a campaign tour in Etekorpe, a community in the Metrikasa Electoral Area, Dr. Agumenu drove to the community with the military officers to disrupt the campaign activities of the MP, an aspirant in the upcoming Parliamentary Primaries slated for August 24th 2019…”.
But in a statement signed by Dr. Agumenu’s Campaign Team PRO, Mr. Moses Negble and copied Awake News, said “Dr. Agumenu and his team deny all the allegations and find the developments very disturbing as its coming from a clique within the constituency executive which has decided to take sides in the constituency parliamentary contest.”
“There have been some unsavory developments in the constituency primarily created by some elements who intend to sow seeds of discontent against Dr. Agumenu with the aim of casting him as a violent person.” – the statement said
According to Mr. Negble, “Dr. Agumenu and his team have been victims of violence over the past few days and some of the victims have been compelled to report to the police. Indeed, at some point tugs supported by some elements in the constituency threatened to burn the aspirant’s vehicle.”
“The police is aware of these matters and Dr. Agumenu and his team urge all constituents to remain resolute, eschew violence and campaign peacefully and responsibly as we draw closer to the Parliamentary primaries.” – the statement added.
