Residents of Korve in the Akatsi North District had glimpse of joy on their faces when a 5-unit classroom block and a 3 unit urinal were handed over to the Korve D.A Primary School by the Member of Parliament, Nortsu Kotoe and the District Chief Executive, Prince Sodoke Amuzu on Friday.

The facility is one of the seven projects funded and constructed by a non-governmental organization, Pencils of Promise within the district, as a means of educational support for schools in dire need of infrastructure.

The project becomes, the 152nd undertaken by Pencils of Promise, in both the Eastern and Volta region, with 13 others under construction.

Mr. Anthony Quashie, who represented the country director of Pencils of Promise, told the gathering in his presentation that, the group is bent on supporting schools and school children especially kindergarten kids, to realize their dreams through the provision of such facilities that would aid teaching and learning in the basic schools.

“Pencils of Promise is bent on providing infrastructure for schools especially, classroom blocks for kindergarten to improve upon teaching and learning in the schools. We believe it is the best way to lay a good foundation for the education of our children.”

He urged parents and the school authorities to make good use of the facility for the betterment and growth of the children.

Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu, (DCE), told the residents at the ceremony that he would work with the MP and the GES, Akatsi North Directorate, in addressing other challenges facing the school, which includes lack of teachers, inadequate teaching materials and the problem of accommodation for teachers.

The MP, Mr. Nortsu Kotoe through whom Pencils of Promise have been brought into the district, thanked the group and asked that they continue their good works especially, in the Akatsi North District.

He was however not happy with the lack of commitment showed by the community folks during the project. He admonished the gathering to always put in the needed support whenever such projects are offered to them again.

“First of all, let me thank Pencils of Promise for their good works. My relationship with them has given us a lot. This project is the seventh they have undertaken in the area. They did one at Fiave-Sanyi, Adzigo, Kpoye, and this is, of course, the biggest project”, he said

“It is the biggest and we didn’t give enough support towards the project. At a point in time, the community support towards this project was left to only three people as mentioned earlier by the headmaster. I don’t think it’s the best for us. Let us endeavour to support such projects, whenever they’re given to us again”.

The project is financed by the Hakkasan Group from the United States of America, with support from Hon. Peter Nortsu Kotoe and the Community.
