Veteran actor Alexander Kofi Adu, known popularly as Agya Koo, has revealed a frightening incident from his past that nearly cost him his life.
The comic actor shared the story during a recent episode of his podcast, using the moment to caution men about sleeping over at a woman’s home, especially when the relationship dynamics aren’t fully known.
Agya Koo said the event happened years ago, long before fame found him. At the time, he was a struggling shoemaker living in Accra. He had formed a bond with a woman who owned a drinking bar in Jamestown. She often supported him through tough times.
“One night, after work, I walked from Newtown to her bar. We talked until she closed around midnight. I told her I’d walk back home, but she insisted it wasn’t safe and urged me to sleep over,” he recalled.
What seemed like a generous offer turned into a nightmare. Shortly after they got to her apartment and the woman went to shower, loud and aggressive knocks rattled the door. It was her ex-boyfriend, furious, shouting insults, and demanding to be let in.
“I froze. I was scared. He stood outside the window yelling threats. I didn’t know if he had a weapon or what he’d do next,” Agya Koo said.
The tense standoff dragged on until the ex-boyfriend finally left. Without hesitation, Agya Koo begged the woman to open the door. As soon as she did, he ran straight home to Newtown. “I didn’t look back. That night could’ve ended very differently,” he said.
Looking back, the actor said the experience changed how he viewed relationships. “It left a scar,” he admitted. “We need to be cautious. You never know who else is in the picture. It’s not worth dying over.”
Agya Koo’s message was clear: Men must think twice before staying over at a woman’s place without fully understanding the situation. His story serves as a sobering reminder that a simple decision can spiral into danger.
