In a surprising turn of events, the Attorney-General has dropped charges against Bishop Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and one other individual in connection with the East Legon accident case.

However, their freedom was short-lived, as they were re-arrested shortly after leaving the courtroom under fresh legal circumstances.

The case dates back to October 12, 2024, when Bishop Amoako’s 16-year-old son was involved in a fatal accident while driving without a valid license.

The incident resulted in the death of two young girls, and the teenager was subsequently sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Bishop Amoako and his wife were also fined 500 penalty units each, equivalent to GH₵6,000, for failing to properly supervise their son.

Additionally, they were ordered to cover damages caused by the accident, including a light pole valued at GH₵8,000.

The state’s decision to drop the charges against Bishop Amoako and his wife was intended to enable the police to conduct additional investigations and determine the appropriate course of action.

However, the re-arrest of the couple under fresh legal circumstances has raised questions about the motives behind the state’s actions.
