Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the Mahama government of prioritizing political persecution over effective governance, claiming that their actions are part of a deliberate strategy to target opposition figures.
Speaking after the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement on Tuesday, 25 March, Afenyo-Markin criticized the government’s handling of law enforcement, suggesting that it was driven more by vendetta than by due process.
He stated, “All you know is persecution. Instead of focusing on the economy and the welfare of Ghanaians, you have chosen to hunt down political opponents.” Afenyo-Markin further criticized the government’s handling of legal matters involving former officials, calling it biased and unfair.
“Justice must be pursued without malice or political interference,” he asserted, accusing the government of using state institutions as tools against those who oppose them.
The Minority Leader urged the government to shift its focus to policies that address Ghana’s pressing economic issues rather than engaging in divisive tactics that could escalate political tensions and undermine democracy.
