The incumbent Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, Alex Afenyo-Markin, was booed and jeered by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at an event to welcome the vice-presidential candidate of the party, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is expected to contest for the parliamentary seat of the constituency on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party, was drawn to the event by the lively atmosphere created by supporters of the opposition party.

The NDC’s Regional Advanced Team, led by the Central Regional Organizer, Chief Mike Dery, received a warm welcome from the enthusiastic supporters who were mostly clad in party regalia and dancing to some party songs.

Despite being in joyful mood, the supporters did not hide their frustration about Ghana’s economic situation. They constantly chanted for change which emphasized their desire for a new regime in the constituency.

In a brief interaction with Awake News, some section of the crowd pledged their unflinching support to the NDC, stating that “we’ll vote massively for John Mahama and the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Dr Kofi Annan.”
