National Security operatives and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have arrested Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, at his residence.
Kumi, a known activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was taken into custody on the morning of Friday, May 23, 2025. His lawyers confirmed the arrest to OnuaOnline.
Recently, Kumi petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, calling for an investigation into claims that some judges involved in the suspended Chief Justice removal probe allegedly met with a lawyer representing one of the petitioners. He based his request on CCTV footage reportedly captured at a Chinese restaurant.
However, the lawyer in question, Thaddeus Sory, has denied the allegation, insisting no such meeting occurred.
Meanwhile, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong reacted swiftly on Facebook, urging party members to “rush to Adenta Kumi’s house” following reports of the arrest.
Kumi’s arrest adds another layer of controversy to the already tense political climate surrounding the Chief Justice suspension probe.
