ACILA to train 60 Bloggers and Social Media Influencers on human rights

Research and education think tank, Africa Centre for International Law & Accountability (ACILA) has opened application to select sixty (60) bloggers and social media influencers for its human rights defenders project in Ghana.

In a press statement signed by ACILA Executive Director, Mr. William [ads1]Nyarko and copied Awake News, the “workshop is designed to enhance the capacity of Ghanaian Bloggers and Social Media Influencers on how to use technology to advocate the protection, promotion, and respect for the rights of all persons in Ghana in accordance with Ghana’s obligations under domestic and international human rights law”.

According to him, the workshop will be held in two folds; Northern Sector (November 20 – 21, 2018 at the Eusbett Hotel in Sunyani) targeting 30 bloggers and social media influencers from the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions while the Southern Sector which will be held on November 23 – 24, 2018 at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra also targets 30 bloggers and social media influencers from Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern, Central and Western Regions.

The 2day residential workshop at each sector will equip the participants with the needed skills required them to become members of the Human Rights Defenders of Ghana, backed by a UN General Assembly resolution for the promotion, protection and respect of human rights in Ghana.

The Africa Center for International Law and Accountability (ACILA) was incorporated under US law, in the state of Virginia, on 20th October, 2015, and received its designation as a 501 (c)(3) research and education, non-partisan, non-profit, and non-governmental organization from the Internal Revenue Service of the United States of America.

The Human Rights Defenders Ghana is a registered subsidiary organization of ACILA.

Editor’s Note:

Who Can Apply:

  • Any person in Ghana who has a well-patronized Blog (Online News portal) that he or she uses to disseminate information to the general public.
  • Writes and publishes on his/her blog
  • Any person in Ghana that has many followers on social media (facebook, twitter, instagram, linkedin) and uses those or any of the listed major social media platforms to educate the general public and engenders discussions on key national issues.
  • The applicant should based in any of the regions and must be available to physically participate in the two-day workshop

Benefits for Selected participants:

  • Participants will be trained and provided with training materials
  • Certificate of participation
  • Payment of transportation;
  • Provision of accommodation for residential participants

What Will I Do After the Training?:

You will become a member of the Human Rights Defenders of Ghana, backed by a UN General Assembly resolution for the promotion, protection and respect of human rights in Ghana.
