Controversial musician and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) anti corruption crusader, Kwame Obeng Asare popularly known as A Plus has stated that the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Abu Jinapor does not understand the issues at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital which is why he and his colleague Francis Asenso-Boakye acted the way the did in the Unibank contract issue.

According him, he was convinced after listening to Abu Jinapor on [ads1]Friday when he made his first public comment on his role in intervening in a petition filed at the presidency by Unibank for unfair treatment by their employer – Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, “Abu does not understand the issues” – A Plus stated.

A Plus is of the view that, in the contract, there are dispute resolution procedures which petitioning the office of the vice president is not part so it is interesting to know that Unibank had to rather petition the vice president but not the management of the teaching hospital.

A Plus also rubbished comment by Kweku Baako Jnr that he (A Plus) is causing a storm in a teacup with the issues which  Kweku Baako Jnr sought to suggests that the issues is not as serious as A Plus portrays it.

Background

Some weeks ago, A-Plus in his Facebook post accused the two Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor and Francis Asenso-Boakye of being corrupt, allegation they have since denied.

A Plus’ post generate huge national interested and eventually caught the attention of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for which he (A-Plus) was invited by the CID to substantiate his allegations and or assist in investigating his allegations.

The CID last week, after concluding its investigations in a press statement signed by the Director General of the CID, COP Bright Oduro described A-Plus’ allegations against the duo as “baseless, unsubstantiated and lacks credibility”.

However, less than week of after CID had cleared the duo of any wrongdoing, a leaked audio believed to be excerpts of a conversation between A-Plus and a female investigator sought to downplay the CID report and suggested a cover-up by the police to protect the image two public officials at the presidency.

Abu Jinapor side of the story:

In a response to all the brouhaha, Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor, who is speaking on the issue publicly for the first time, explained that the allegations arose from his attempt to act on a petition he received from UniBank complaining about alleged unfair treatment by the management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Unibank, which used to collect revenue on behalf of the hospital, felt sidelined after management of Korle Bu decided to outsource that responsibility to another bank, without giving UniBank a chance to put in a bid.

He, therefore, denied ever influencing Korle-Bu to revert the contract to uniBank in exchange for financial favours.

“Well that would be totally untoward and that would be totally uncalled for and I will never, never, never, never, never do that. I’ll never do that.

I’m not the best man of integrity in the world but my scruples are very really tight and I was brought up well and I will never do that and excuse my language, I’m not that stupid. I won’t do that. And it never happened and it couldn’t have happened,” he said.

Mr. Jinapor said they may be forced to resort to the court if A-Plus continues to make more damning allegations against them.
