A Lawyer sues NIA, AG over Digital Address Code

A Private Legal Practitioner, Francis Kwarteng Arthur has on Friday October 19, 2018, filed a writ at the High Court in Accra challenging the legality of the Digital Address Code siting several issues that he says violates his Human Rights.

According the lawyer who is representing himself, making the Digital Address Code of the GhanaPost GPS as a requirement for being registrered on the National Indentification System and issued with the GhanaCard is illigal.

Mr. Arthur in the writ is praying the High Court to order the National Identification Authority to register and issue him with the GhanaCard notwithstanding the fact that he doesn’t have the said Digital Address Code.

The National Identification Authority (NIA), issuers of the Ghana Card has suffered multiple lawsiuts over the Ghana Card. Alst two months, Strategic Thinkers, dragged the Authority to the Supreme Court over its decision to exclude the Voters ID as proof of Ghanaian citizenship for the acquisition of the card..

According to the NIA, apart from proof of citizenship, the Ghana Card is a multifaceted identity card that will be used for voting, national health, driving license, etc
