The Dean of the University of Cape Coast School of Business, Professor John Gatsi, has indicated that the national budget arguably provides the government with the resource it needs to deliver its policies and run vital services.
Speaking at the Central Regional Chamber of Commerce Budget Forum, an event which he chaired, Prof. Gatsi said a budget is the starting point of transparency and accountability through participatory budgeting approach, hence a forum to discuss the National budget at the regional level is crucial because it helps to determine whether or not the budget has the policies and programs to develop a regional economy with the needed infrastructure to integrate the Central Region with other regions to enhance economic opportunities.
In furtherance, Prof. Gatsi stressed that the National budget is not merely about revenue and expenditure estimates, fiscal deficit, and the debt level but the strategic distribution of resources to meet the needs of people in health, education, road, security, agriculture, and agro-processing infrastructure and business development, et all.
He admonished the speakers to discuss the 2021 budget to highlight the developmental needs of the region.
