Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has launched an attack on the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) for its condemnation of the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Describing the GBA’s statement as “overreaching and politically charged,” Bawa questioned the Association’s authority to interpret the Constitution and accused it of engaging in media theatrics instead of legal action.
“Who invited the Bar to interpret the Constitution?” Bawa asked in a pointed social media post, adding that if the GBA truly believed in its claims, it should file a case in court rather than issue public threats.
Her remarks come amid a deepening national controversy over the Chief Justice’s suspension by President Mahama. While the government insists the move is constitutionally grounded, critics including the GBA argue it undermines judicial independence.
Joyce Bawa’s rebuttal intensifies the political heat surrounding the case and further questions the GBA’s impartiality. As pressure mounts, her challenge underscores a growing demand for legal clarity over political posturing.
