A sales agent at Obrempong Cold Store in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing a large sum of money from his employer. Kelvin Ofori Sakyi, 24, was found guilty of misappropriating GH¢75,895, which he used for gambling on soccer bets.

The theft came to light after discrepancies were discovered in the sales reports Sakyi submitted. He claimed that customers had bought products on credit, but an audit later revealed that the sales amount could not be accounted for.

Further investigation showed that Sakyi had spent the stolen funds on soccer betting, with his mobile money transaction history revealing a total expenditure of GH¢75,173 on bets.

Sakyi was arrested, and after confessing to his actions, he was charged and brought before the Tarkwa Circuit Court. The court, presided over by Hathia Ama Manu, sentenced him to seven years of hard labour in prison. The sentence reflects the severity of his crime and the significant breach of trust in his role as a sales agent.
