Enoch Buamah, a 19-year-old illegal miner, has been sentenced to three months of hard labour at the Tarkwa District Court One for stealing assorted items valued at GH¢7,563.
Buamah, who had previously been jailed for a similar offence, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, causing damage, and theft. The court sentenced him to three months for each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently.
According to Prosecutor Inspector Patrick Essien, the complainant in the case, Patricia Kyei, a hairdresser, resides in Nyametease in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality. On December 11, 2024, Kyei left her house locked to attend an event in Akotom.
Upon returning on March 12, 2024, she discovered her house had been broken into, with the door damaged. The stolen items included a television, cloth pieces, cooking utensils, cutlery, a plastic chair, bowls, soaps, dresses, a mirror, and more, all totaling GH¢7,563 in value.
Kyei reported the crime to the local unit committee task force, which investigated and tipped off Buamah. He confessed to the crime and led authorities to his home, where the stolen items were recovered. Buamah was arrested and handed over to the police, who charged him following their investigation.
