A devastating incident occurred on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, when unknown gunmen shot two final-year students of Gambaga College of Education.
The students, who were on teaching practice, had just returned from a DSTV viewing center where they watched the UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
According to reports, the students, one identified as Salifu, were standing outside their residence discussing the game when the gunmen on a motorbike approached them.
The attackers identified the students and opened fire at close range, leaving Salifu dead and the other critically injured.
Salifu, died instantly, while the injured student was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
The police arrived at the scene and transported the deceased student’s body to the morgue.
This incident is believed to be linked to the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
Just two weeks ago, unknown gunmen attempted an attack on another Kusasi student in Gambaga, though it was unsuccessful.
