The Krachi East Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has embarked on a public sensitisation campaign to educate students on the dangers of social media.

The campaign, which targeted students from Heroes Academy Preparatory School and T.I Ahmaddya Basic School, aimed to raise awareness on cyberbullying, internet fraud, and child online abuse.

Mr Paul Datsomor, a representative from the NCCE, explained to the students that cyberbullying involved using the internet, social media, mobile phones to harass, threaten, and harm others.

He provided examples of sending harmful messages, sharing embarrassing pictures, videos without permission, and spreading rumors about someone.

Mr Datsomor also warned the students about internet fraud, where individuals use tricks online to steal money and personal information from others.

He highlighted common types of internet fraud, including phishing, online scams, and fake online shopping.

Madam. Elizabeth Wottuomo Badawise, Civic Education Officer, discussed child online abuse, emphasising that it occured when adults or strangers use the internet to harm, trick, or take advantage of children.

She explained online grooming, exposure to harmful content, and extortion, urging the students to be cautious and report any suspected cyber threats to the authorities.

The NCCE team advised the students to be vigilant when using social media and to report any suspicious activities to the police or school authorities for immediate support.

This initiative is part of the NCCE’s efforts to promote civic education and awareness among students, empowering them to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
