The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged the public to make their attitude in fire prevention count.
The service announced that there has been six hundred and forty (640) nationwide fires across the country from January 1 to January 23, 2023.
In a Facebook post by the service, statistics show that Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of fire reprsenting 133, with the North East region recording the least with 6.
The Greater Accra region recorded 109, Central -63, Eastern – 60, Tema- 47, Northern -37, Volta -28, Western -27, Bono East -24.
The Upper East region, Upper West/Bono, Oti/Savannah, Ahafo and Western North recorded 20, 17, 14, 13 and 11 respectively.
Domestic fires led with 224 cases, commercial – 88, electrical installation– 43 and bushfires – 182. The rest are vehicular – 44, institutional – 18 and other fires – 41.
One hundred and sixty one (161) of fires recorded were put out on arrival by the firemen.
Within the period, 29 rescues were made by the Fire Service. Another 68 rescue injuries and 10 rescue deaths were made with 5 total injuries and 4 total fire deaths.
