The heartbreaking death of a three-year-old boy has shocked the Sunyani Zongo Community.
Ismaeli Ibrahim slipped into a gutter and drowned after a downpour that hit the Sunyani Municipality on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
During a visit, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered from the grieved-stricken residents that the tragic incident happened between 1500 hours and 1600 hours after the torrential rains ,which accompanied a heavy storm.
Mr Abdul Ikad Issah, the Assembly Member for the Zongo Electoral Area, told the GNA the deceased was in the company of a friend, saying one of the slippers fell into the gutter.
“The rain water has covered the gutter, and the unsuspecting boy could not notice that, and fell into it when he attempted to remove his slippers,” he stated.
Sadly, Mr Issah said some bystanders noticed the incident and made some attempts to rescue him, however, the boy was swept under a storm drain.
They pursued but retrieved the lifeless body around the Angola enclave at the Sunyani main garage, he said, adding that health officers on duty at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital pronounced him dead on arrival.
Mr Isssah said the bereaved family obtained a medical report, and the police allowed them to bury the body as required by the Islamic faith.
