2021 Holy Trinity SPA qualifiers: AMTEC, Ho Tennis Club qualify for finals

The Semi-final matches between the four competing Tennis Clubs for their final slots in the First Holy Trinity SPA Inter-Club tournament was held over the weekend at the SPA in Sogakope, Volta Region.

The tournament that began early this year with eight tennis clubs, saw the Army Mess Tennis Club(AMTEC) and Ho Tennis Club emerging as the two finalists.

The All doubles competition had Gentlemen, Ladies and Mixed doubles as their categories.

The fixtures pitched the Ho Tennis Club from the regional capital of the Volta region against the Police Depot Tennis Club from Tesano, Accra whiles the University of Professional Studies Tennis Club locked  horns with Army Mess Tennis Club, all from Accra.                                 

ON THE COURT
The Ho Club dominated their first three Men’s and Mixed double matches, with only a match to propelled them to a straight qualification into the finals but their opponents uplifted their 0-3 trailing by winning their two Men’s doubles, catching up at a tie of 3-2 in favour of the Ho Club, going into a sixth match, needing to force the deciding match in the Mixed double.

In the end, Ho Club managed to secure their final qualification with Elorm Ekpe partnering Eric Bortey against Police Depot Chairman Bilal and Happy Dzah in a final tie breaker of 7-5 win to confirm Victory for Ho Club, bagging a total of 5-2 overall win.

The other matches between the Army Mess Tennis Club and the University of Professional Studies Tennis Club turned out to be a fulfilment of the prophesies by AMTEC in a bragging right video before the match.

AMTEC dominated almost all the matches, with the exception of the only win for UPSA that was a highly competitive one with Kwadwo Nsiah and Kwaku Adae(UPSA) against Eddy Ike Atte(AMTEC) for an overall 6-1 victory for AMTEC.

The President of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), Mr. Isaac Abe Duah, disclosed to Octopus Media on a new modalities and formats to improve upon the subsequent Inter-Clubs tournaments.

According to the President, a new door is been open to allow all tennis clubs across the country to also participate by an Inter-zonal( Northern, Middle, Accra and Tema) system, where semi final tennis clubs will meets at the Sogakope SPA to compete for the final slots.

The date for the final matches between Ho Club and the Army Mess Tennis Club has been scheduled for Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the same venue.
