Ten Burkinabe nationals have been arrested by the Juaboso Police Command in an operation which was led by the DCE of Juaboso and some deployed security personnel from Topaco Company Limited.
The 10, who were arrested on Monday, 23rd July, 2018 were allegedly carrying out galamsey (illegal mining) activities on the Basinta River in Juaboso township and Mintakrom Aboso in the Juaboso District of Western Region.
The suspects were identified as Issifu Wudrebo, 42, Wudrebo Issaka, 40, Sulley Wudrego, 28, Shirechi Porogo, 30, Miemkuba, 22, Sulemana Issifu, 23, Inusa Kamparo,27, Issaka Porogo,15, Mamudu Wudrebo,15, and Seidu Abuba, 16 – all Burkinabe nationals.
According to the DCE of the area, Hon. Martha Manu, the operation which led to the arrest of the ten illegal miners was occasioned by a tip-off from patriotic residents of the district.
Ms Manu said: “On Sunday afternoon, I received a call from some residents of my area who informed me about the ongoing illegal mining at the areas mentioned. I quickly alerted my operation team who set off to the various sites on Monday morning.”
In the operation 11 Motor Bikes, a pick-axe and a number of shovels were seized from the various sites.
