The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has commended the Wenchi High Court for ordering the state to pay a total of GH¢270,000 to the six individuals who were shot at the Techiman South collation center during the 2020 elections.

Mr. Mahama stated that while the court made the right decision, he believes the compensation is insufficient to adequately support the victims.

Speaking at a rally in Twimia Nkwanta in the Bono East Region, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, the former President said, “The compensation given to the victims, I was thinking it would be more than the GHS275,000, but I acknowledge the court’s decision. However, when the NDC comes to power, we’ll ensure to provide necessary assistance to the victims.”

He added that, in addition to providing further support to the victims, he would launch a probe into the alleged state-sponsored shootings and ensure the culprits are punished.

“We would investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book and face the law. Also, those who lost their lives, we’ll compensate their families,” he remarked.
