Stop the hypocrisy – Prof Avea Nsoh to Ghana Bar Association

Prof Avea Nsoh

A former Upper East Regional Minister Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh has called out the Ghana Bar Association on what he describes as hypocrisy and pretense.

Reacting to the Ghana Bar Association’s (GBA) silence over recent accusations against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Professor Avea Nsoh said it is judicial gerrymandering in Ghanaian courts.

He lamented the level of manipulation by the AG, which he states is part of current happenings in courts across the country.

“I am utterly shocked that Godfred Dame’s attempt at manipulating proceedings at an Accra High court is being discussed as an isolated case. Machination, manipulation and gerrymandering of our judicial system are as common as the air we breathe. Anyone who has been to any Ghanaian court would have experienced these criminal acts accepted unfortunately as part of our criminal justice system,” he said.

Prof Avea said if what Godfred Dame did was under the NDc, the GBA and Judicial Council would be seen all over acting holy. He reminded them of how they reacted to John Mahama’s criticism of the courts in 2023.

“Not surprisingly, the Ghana Bar Association and the Judicial Council have not uttered a word on the issue. Do you recall how quickly they run to town with former President Mahama’s criticism of the courts last year? Can you imagine what these bodies would have done to Mr. Dame if he had been a Minister under former President Mahama?

“Let’s stop being ostriches and pretenders. What Mr. Godfred Dame, the Attoney General has done is general practice in our courts. I am not saying it. It’s happening every day and we are all aware of it. Let’s stop the hypocrisy, the pretence!” Prof Avea concluded.
