The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu has accused the Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin of illegally busing at least 71 soldiers in the name of transfer of votes into the Constituency.
According to Prof. Asiedu, the rules designed by the Electoral Commission that govern the special voting for security agencies have elapsed. He added that he finds it very intriguing that Mr Afenyo-Markin flouts the laws to get these soldiers registered and transfer their votes to Effutu.
Prof Asiedu said, the special voting window has ended but the MP has managed to bring in several soldiers who have illegally transferred their votes to Effutu Constituency.
He stressed that the EC officials should act fast to see those names expunged from the register before the unexpected things happened.
“We know the EC has laws that deal with the security agencies when it comes to special voting, and that epoch in that regard has ended so under what command is Afenyo-Markin acting to bring at least 71 soldiers to transfer their votes to Effutu Constituency so as to vote on December 7. So, EC we’ve questions to ask you and if this video gets to you, your outfit ought to act fast before the unexpected thing happens. Those names should be removed from the register if not we will advise ourselves,” Prof Asiedu warned.
He reiterated that the party will hold a press conference to demand answers from the EC on how these soldiers can get registered and transfer their votes to Effutu Constituency for the 2024 elections.
