The HOHOE Constituency Parliamentary Seat cannot be said to have been lost to the New Patriotic Party. The loss of the said seat of the National Democratic Congress in the 2020 General Elections could be attributed to several unit factors that aggregated to a damning great one, consequently leading to the historically infamous “defeat”. This can be considered as an anomaly and a fluke, so bound to fail in the upcoming General Elections in 2024.

Equally, this premise engendered a historic visit which was coloured with a mammoth turn out of party faithful and sympathizers. The VOLTA Region NDC Parliamentary Caucus’, under the abled leadership of Hon. Bedzrah, visiting the HOHOE Constituency on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, was a remarkable one by all standards. The event saw top party officials, parliamentary gurus and loyalists in attendance at the Town Hall Meeting. Clearly, the base of the NDC is still active and almost formidable to whisk back the seemingly lost parliamentary seat occupied by the party’s sworn political opponent, the NPP, led by John Peter Amewu in the constituency.

It is unsafe to say that the party is set in all alacrity to embark on this difficult-but-possible-assignment without an all-hands-on-deck approach and most importantly minus the timely and strategic intervention of this caucus. The pedigree of the Volta NDC MPs is key to unlocking the locked political fortunes of the party in the constituency. Apart from financial support, the caucus is dared to stir up and champion the unity drive of the party to see that frightful force into 2024.

The constituency, in its bid to correct the fallacy trumpeted by the NPP in the 2020 campaign, is embarking on result-oriented initiatives to right all wrongs: defection issues, divisive party elections, voluntary donations and other party-related activities. It goes to say that even though the party looks attractive from the outside, much work must be done to achieve the much-desired results, mindful of the fact that the party needs seatback in parliament.

To highlight some milestones achieved so far, a litany of projects can be touted to the credit of the NDC in the constituency. A cursory view of them makes this argument even stronger. The Margret Kweku-led Parliamentary Candidacy of the party in 2020 brought a good number of social interventional projects to bear. Even before her candidature, as Municipal Chief Executive, Professor superintended over water projects, health, school infrastructures, electrification projects, sanitation programmes, among several. A visionary woman, who one time fronted the establishment of a satellite campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Hohoe, fostered the peace among the Gbi State and the Zongo Community and masterminded numerous developmental projects has been up to the task even better, vis a vis, her fierce contender, Peter Amewu.

Madam Kweku’s deeds were embellished and supported by, not only the Executive Committee and faithful but also the Parliamentary Candidature Aspirants who eventually lost to her in the 2020 Primaries. Mention could be made of Lawyer Dzimegah, Mr. Dimake, Mr. Mortey, Prof. Ahorsu among others. These gallant compatriots, to date, contribute immensely to the betterment of the party and the progress of the constituency: infrastructurally, financially, morally, among other things.

It is also germane to state that through the tireless efforts of some Comrades, the constituency has started and is duty-ready to launch into a rigorous grassroots energization programme. This unification and revitalization module is purported to see a formidable comeback of the party as a whole and the reclamation of the HOHOE Seat in particular. In this vein, the constituency is undergoing reshaping to witnessing a more feverish and well-patronized Branch Executive Election, a passion-filled Constituency Executive Election and a decorous, idea-oriented Parliamentary Candidacy Election. The Volta NDC M.Ps. Caucus can be assured that frantic measures, strategic enough, are being put in place for competitively sound elections to fairly choose the best Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 Elections.

The entirety of Parliament is challenged, more specifically the Volta Caucus, to morally, administratively, spiritually, and most pertinently, financially support this “orphan” CONSTITUENCY, HOHOE, in order to WIN back the seat from the NPP, come 2024 General Elections.

Long live Ghana, long live the NDC, long live the Hohoe Constituency NDC.
