EC Clears 13 Candidates; PNC’s Bernard Mornah, 10 others disqualified

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially confirmed the eligibility of 13 presidential hopefuls to contest in the upcoming December 7 election, following a thorough review of their nomination forms.

The commission also disclosed that four independent candidates passed the test and are set to contest in the December polls.

In a press statement, the EC announced that, “Following the successful conduct of the Filing of Nominations from the 9th of September to the 13th of September, 2024, the Commission instituted a thorough examination of the Nomination Forms submitted by the Candidates to ensure conformity with requirements as set out in law.”

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that the following persons have successfully gone through the Nomination process and qualify to contest as Candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election,” the statement concluded.

The qualified candidates include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party), John Dramani Mahama (National Democratic Congress), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen (Independent Candidate), Nana Kwame Bediako (Independent Candidate), and Dr. Hassan Ayariga (All People’s Congress).
