The embattled Central Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ekow Ewusi has petitioned the Director-General of Bureau of National Investigations to as a matter of urgency institute investigations into “seized and movable logistics” by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on illegal Mining.

In the petition dated February 10, 2020 and sighted by Awake News, Mr. Ewusi is urging the BNI to “to cause a swift and steady investigation over the alleged missing 500 excavators, kilos of gold and some auxiliary logistics which were seized by Galamstop-an operational wing of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on illegal Mining (hereinafter referred to as IMCIM)”.

According to Mr. Ewusi who is a member of the IMCIM was contracted and “tasked to cart movable, seized and available logistics into safekeeping by IMCIM” and “Until 31st October, 2019, a reliable and accurate document prepared by Operation Vanguard, and accompanied by an audit from IMCIM, which corresponded with my records indicated that a total of two hundred and fifty-four (254) excavators had been confiscated.”

“The last audit indicated that, an undeniable one hundred (100) of these excavators had been released under the direct orders and instructions of the Hon Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Frimpong Boateng with the remainder, all in safekeeping yards in Accra.” – he added in the petition.

Mr. Ewusi also wants the BNI  “proceed with investigations in the operations and activities of these companies, Thy will Company Ltd, Symphony Company Ltd, River Restoration Company Ltd and their relationships with the IMCIM. An additional Investigation is hereby requested to be caused into the mining activities and operations of a young man believed to be an aide to Prof Frimpong Boateng otherwise known in Mpasatia as “Joe Farasee”.”

Mr. Ewusi the past week has been in the news over his arrest in the alleged missing of some 500 excavators.

His arrest follows a request made by the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Frimpong Boateng.

The ‘Request for Investigation’ letter written by Professor Frimpong Boateng to the Director General of the Police CID said Mr Ekow Awusi was contracted to car excavators and other vehicles and pieces of equipment seized by Operation Vanguard to designated areas for safe keeping.

The minister’s letter said the Ministry had received information that he sent an unknown number of equipment to unauthorized location including one in Tema.
