Be alert, NPP will use foul means to win elections – Abraham Koomson warns NDC

Abraham Koomson - Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour

Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr Abraham Koomson has urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to devise strategies for the 2024 general elections to curtail rigging by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

He said the NPP has woefully failed Ghanaians, leaving the NDC as the only viable option to redeem the country. However, the NPP, he said will not walk out without a fight as they will attempt to use dubious means to stay in power.

He warned that the NDC ought to work assiduously for an exhilarating victory in this year’s elections else the NPP will stay in power.

According to Mr. Koomson, the NDC must collaborate with Civil Society Organizations to rescue the country from the bondage of the NPP. A leadership he said has led Ghana down an economic hell.

In an interview on Ahotor 92.3 FM‘s ‘Yepe Ahunu‘ show, Mr. Koomson disclosed that the NPP would deploy any foul tactics; legal or illegal to retain power. As a result, he called on the NDC to adequately be prepared to counter the nefarious plans of the ruling party.

Shedding light on some of the supposed ill-tactics by the NPP, Mr. Koomson said the display of the Kwadaso MP during the Ejisu by-election is just the tip of the iceberg. He said more of such actions should be expected from a party struggling to sell its message after seven years in office.

Though the Kwadaso MP and the NPP have denied any wrongdoings, Mr. Koomson said the evidence is clear. He said such actions especially on election day raise concerns about the government’s commitment to free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections.

Also, Mr. Koomson said the partnership of John Mahama and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a perfect one for the NDC. He said the chances of the party winning with this ticket are very high and must be fully taken advantage of.
