Citizens’ Participation in District-Level Elections Strengthens Our Democracy – NCCE

The media arm of Concerned Youths of Akatsi South constituency has dismissed the endorsement of their Member of Parliament, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, by Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu, a member of Parliament for Madina constituency, describing it as “worthless, needless, and undemocratic.”

In a video going viral on the internet, the member of parliament for Madina had endorsed the 4th term candidacy of Hon. Ahiafor.

This action saw many citizens lamenting why Hon. Sosu, who is constantly heard and seen delivering for his constituency, should be the imposter who is negligently campaigning for a 3rd term member of parliament who has abysmally performed and was to be replaced come May 13th.

But in a statement from the group, they respect the right of Mr. Sosu to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election in Akatsi South, but his endorsement of Mr. Ahiafor is needless, undemocratic, and worthless.

A word of caution is sounded to him (Hon. Susu) that,in spite of practicing democracy, they wouldn’t want to see him show up in Akatsi South Constituency for such reckless exercise again, and that if he has no work to do, he should take rest and let the people of Akatsi South make their own choice come May 13, 2023.

They therefore entreat all delegates to remain resolute and effect the change that’s needed to move Akatsi South from this current abysmal level to a notch higher in terms of development and social growth.

READ THE FULL STATEMENT BELOW.

LAWYER FRANCIS-XAVIER KOJO SOSU’S ENDORSEMENT OF OUR OUTGOING MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT IS WORTHLESS AND MUST BE DISREGARDED.

We watched with amusement the endorsement of Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, the outgoing member of Parliament for Akatsi South, by a Democratic enemy, Lawyer Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, a member of Parliament for Madina, in a video making the rounds on the internet.
Following calls from some angry constituents who asked for our reaction, we decided to make this preliminary statement, though we didn’t consider the so-called endorsement to be of any value.

We respect the democratic right of Mr. Sosu to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election in Akatsi South because we believe that puts food on his table.
Except that he made it known formally in his message at the funeral in Gornikorpe, any discerning political watcher in Akatsi South knows that Sosu’s preference for Hon. Ahiafor is expected.

The endorsement is worthless because it is evidently clear that Hon. Sosu does not possess any political goodwill or leverage anywhere in Akatsi South to make anyone win even a unit committee election, let alone a parliamentary candidate election.
We want to emphasize that Sosu’s undemocratic endorsement is not a political currency that Mr. Ahiafor can spend anywhere in Akatsi South because he is not a political force, even in his constituency.

We take particular notice of the part of the endorsement statement where Mr. Sosu said Mr. Ahiafor is a hardworking Member of Parliament, but for the record, we want to emphatically state that the comment was meant to make a mockery of our member of Parliament because:
1. Sosu enters Parliament on the 7th of January 2021, but Mr. Ahiafor, who went to Parliament in 2013, cannot compare himself to Sosu when it comes to contributions on the floor of Parliament and the obligations of members of Parliament in their respective constituencies.

2. It is even more disheartening and shameful for us that a three-term MP will be begging a one-term MP for endorsement far from Madina to help him win parliamentary primaries. This action, we believe, has echoed the incompetent tendencies of our outgoing member of Parliament.

We want to state here that Sosu is not a good judge of character. He is a man who considers only himself to be the all-knowing saint in Ghana’s politics.

Thank you,

 Signed
