Investigative Journalist, Efo Korsi Senyo has sent a strong message to the Registrar General and Official Liquidator of Toku Company Ltd saying he cannot be intimidated by the petition she (Mrs. Jemima Oware) filed against him at the National Media Commission (NMC) asking the regulatory body to stop further publications on the GH¢4.5million Registrar General scandal.
In a five pages response to the petition filed against him, the journalist is asking the NMC to dismiss the petition for lacking bases.
“I..therefore pray your high office to dismiss this petition brought before you against me for lacking bases and evidence to back any of the stated claims”
I wish to remind the Registrar General and the Official Liquidator that she cannot run away from her past activities as far as the liquidation of Toku Company is concerned and must not try to present difference evidence outside what the Department filed in their affidavits to the Courts only destroy my work and make the public see me as a bad “self-styled investigative journalist” – he added
Background:
The Registrar General’s Department under the Ministry of Justice and Attorney Generals Department has petitioned the National Media Commission over the conduct of the Executive Editor of Awake News and investigative journalist Efo Korsi Senyo, on the publication of matters relating to his exposé on the liquidation of Toku Company Limited in 2011.
The investigative journalist on December 6, 2018, released a mind-blowing account of purported wrongdoing in the liquidation of the above-stated company after months of undercover work, entitled “BOMBSHELL: GH¢4.5M SCANDAL HITS REGISTRAR GENERAL“.
The investigative journalist after the release of the exposé appeared on a number of radio programs to give further clearance to the issues contained in the his report, including an interview with Captain Smart on Adom FM’s morning show where the investigative journalist clashed with the Registrar General’s legal adviser, Mr. George Kofi Bekai and her Consultant, Mr. Ahlidza.
However, in a petition dated December, 20th 2018, to the National Media Commission (NMC), by the Registrar-General and the Official Liquidator of Toku Company Ltd, Mrs. Jemima Maama Oware described the journalist’s actions as a move to scandalize and impugn the integrity of the official liquidator and the office of the Registrar General.
The petition went further to state that there was no wrongdoing in the liquidation of Toku Company Limited as being purported by the journalist in his report.
Mrs. Oware, the Registrar General, by the petition is asking the National Media Commission to;
i. restrain the investigative journalist, Efo Korsi Senyo from any act, conduct to impugn the integrity of the official liquidator, Toku Company Limited.
ii. restrain Efo Korsi Senyo from publishing on the website or on his Facebook page, on the subject matter.
iii. apologize and withdraw the publication against the official liquidator, Toku Company Limited from Awake Newspaper and all other platforms.
iv. lastly, issue a perpetual restrain order to the journalist not to publish, comment or speak in any public forum on the subject matter.
Korsi Senyo’s response to the petition:
In his response to the NMC dated January 16, 2019, the investigative journalist denied any wrongdoing during his work saying he has presented the facts to back all his claims in the investigative report and that the Registrar General rather failed to prove otherwise when he [Korsi Senyo] presented the opportunity for her to do so.
I have done nothing wrong on the subject matter to warrant the above stated reliefs granted the petitioner, the Registrar General. I presented what I saw backed by evidence. The petitioner rather failed to prove otherwise of my claims
