World Cup: you must qualify – Mohammed Polo warns Black Stars

Mohammed Polo

Ghana football legend, Mohammed Ahmed Polo, has warned the Black Stars to leave everything on the pitch to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars resume their qualification quest with a short trip to the home of West African neighbour, Mali on June 6. After the June 6th encounter, they will return to Ghana to take on the Central African Republic in Kumasi four days later.

With their qualification on the line following a faltering start that saw them slip to fourth after an away defeat to Comoros, the Black Stars have no option but to ensure victories in all subsequent matches.

The former Hearts of Oak star man said Ghana has an opportunity to qualify due to the increased slots for Africa. He said Ghanaian football fans demand the best and the Black Stars must deliver the best.

“These players have been assigned to the Black Stars. Even though I fervently hope they succeed and with five [9] slots available, it’s an opportunity we must seize. Qualification is paramount because Ghanaian fans demand excellence and this can only be achieved through dedication.”

Known as the “dribbling magician” for his magic feet, the 1978 AFCON winner warned that the team would hear from Ghanaians if they failed to qualify.

“They will hear from us if they don’t [qualify],” Mohammed Polo said on Akoma FM.
