The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu has joined scores of personality to condemn Chief Justice of Ghana over the petition he filed at the General Legal Council Dr. Dominic Ayine‘s criticism of the Supreme Court in relation to their adjudication of the 2020 election petition.

Justice Anim Yeboah petitioned the legal profession regulatory body to investigate claims by the former Deputy Attorney-General that the Supreme Court failed to apply the rules of procedure and also questioned the independence of the apex court due to the manner in which it adjudicated the 2020 Election petition.

Dr. Dominc Ayeni who was acquitted and discharged by the Supreme Court after he was sighted for contempt over these comments during the election petition hearing that it appears the judges on the case have predetermined mine to dismiss NDC applications made his latest observation during a public forum on law reforms organized by Ghana Centre for Democratic Development and Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

But in an article written by the Madina MP, he disagreed with the Chief Justice saying the judiciary is not above criticism and that his petition to the General Legal Council has no basis.

For renowned human rights lawyer, “The Chief Justice should do the most Honorable thing to withdraw this shameful petition to save the reputation of the Judiciary esle he will reduce the revered institution to an institution of pettiness and demigods who are beyond criticism and this would make the institution a laughing stock.”

According to Lawyer Sosu, “Free speech is the foundation of every democracy. Citizen’s ability to freely express their opinion and thought is what holds people in power in check. One cannot accept to serve the people in high public office, be paid with Ghanaian tax payers’ money whether these Ghanaians are rich or poor, educated or uneducated and yet refuse to subject themselves to the people’s scrutiny.”

His Lordship the Chief Justice must come to the simple realization that, his position is not a private one and for that matter, he is equally subject to public accountability and criticism.”-  He added
