With Akufo-Addo, I doubt if Kissi Agyebeng will succeed as Special Prosecutor – Amos

The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Amos Blessing Amorse says he doubts if the newly nominated Special Prosecutors will succeed with Akufo-Addo as President.

Reacting to the news of the announcement of Mr. Kissi Agyebeng as the nominee for the Office of the Special Prosecutor on his Facebook page, Mr. Amorse said “The Office of the Special Prosecutor is not about the prosecutorial prowess or legal shrewdness of who occupies it. It is about whether the corrupt forces that be will allow the occupant space to do his work without dictating to him.”

“In an era where the Akufo Addo government wants to control everything, and indeed, has succeeded in controlling everything, I doubt if Lawyer Kissi Adyabeng will succeed.” – Mr. Amorse casts doubt

He was however quick to add that “There is no doubt that Kissi Adyabeng is a legal power House, particularly in the area of criminal law. The closest I came to meeting him was when I was admitted to read law. He resigned from the faculty the very year I was admitted so I did not directly benefit from his scholarship. However, our then seniors at the faculty spoke fondly about him and how good he was in the lecture hall. Our then senior passed on Kissi’s criminal law handout to us in furtherance of our understanding of criminal law. The material was very helpful.”

According to Mr. Amorse, Lawyer Agyapong “should have turned down the appointment to save his integrity” adding that “Accepting to head an independent institution under President Akufo Addo is akin to increasing the temperature of hell fire and jumping into it hoping to survive.”

For him “The independency of State institutions under President Akufo Addo exist only on paper. In reality, the President and his army of corrupt manipulators work as shadow heads of those institutions. We only have ceremonial heads of independent institutions under President Akufo Addo.”

In fulfilling his 2016 campaign promise, President Akufo-Addo establishes the Office of the Special Prosecutor and appointed The opposition NDC’s former Attorney General, Martin Amidu.

However, in the hit to the 2020 general elections, Mr. Martin Amidu resigned accusing the President of interfering in his work particularly in relation to his corruption risk assessment of the Agyapa royalties deal.

They determine what should be done and how it should be done. So when you are appointed, you are given a corrupt hymn book to sing from. Failure to strike the cords from that book will turn the tide against you – corruption will fight you back and defeat you. I don’t know Kissi’s motivation for accepting to serve as SP under President Akufo Addo. His dalliance with persons seen as architects of all corrupt deals under this present government is public knowledge.

If Kissi’s intention is to serve this nation faithfully as required of him, then I am afraid he will not have his way. However, if he has already signed an unwritten pact with the apostles of corruption to do their bidding, then he will enjoy his office. All that President Akufo Addo needs in a Special Prosecutor is someone who will give clean bill of health to all stinking deals anytime they are cooked and Ghanaians rise against it. Aside this, President Akufo Addo desires a Special Prosecutor who will persecute his political opponents and slap them with frivolous charges. If Kissi is able to do this hatchet job against the chagrin of Ghanaians, he will be President Akufo Addo’s darling SP.

Again, if the latter was the reason why Kissi accepted to serve as the next SP, then he should know that when the history of this country is written one day about how corrupt this government was, his name will feature prominently. For now, Kissi has already drawn his seat to the table of corrupt men awaiting to dine with them.
