During the opening match of group B, Ghana was behind the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in the first 45 minutes, as they conceded a17th minute goal from Jamiro Monteiro who went for a tap-in in a rebound after Richard Ofori parried a long shot.

This last-minute defeat caused the law lecturer, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya to pour out his frustrations stating “when everything else in our nation is down, football fills in. This man who wears his glasses and behaves like a Physics teacher on the touchline needs to be sacked tomorrow morning.”

The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration law lecturer did not only call for Chris Hughton head but waded into the psychological effect football has on Ghanaians, hence the need for the coach to have done better. “He knows nothing about the psychological effect football has on the nation”.

However, it must be noted that Chris Hughton apologized for Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde in a post-match interview. Indicating it was a big disappointment, and promised to come out with better results in subsequent matches.
