What JB Danquah told British King on ‘That Man Kwame Nkrumah’s plan for independence

President Akufo-Addo whose uncle has Joseph Boakye Danquah has stirred another controversy again on his position of the legacy of former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The President today in his address to the nation, Ghana says he rejects completely the notion that country was founded by a single individual stating his total disagreement with the claims that Kwame Nkrumah founded Ghana.

According to him, he recognized the immersed contribution of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the independence of Ghana hence in 2019, Parliament passing a law establishing August 4 as Founders’ Day to honour the collective efforts of those who contributed to Ghana’s independence struggle, while designating September 21 (Nkrumah’s birthday) as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.

Ghana was not founded by one man – Akufo-Addo ‘fights’ Nkrumah again

President Akufo-Addo insisted that Ghana was founded on August 4 and said notable figures to be honored are Kwame Nkrumah including and other members of the “Big Six” were Edward Akufo-AddoJoseph Boakye DanquahEmmanuel Obetsebi-LampteyWilliam Ofori Atta, and Ebenezer Ako-Adjei.

Mr. Akufo-Addo chose the 4 August was as the substantive date to mark founders’ day to purposely mark two important days or events in the history of Ghana. Firstly, on 4 August 1897, Gold Coast Aborigines’ Rights Protection Society led by John Mensah Sarbah was formed. Furthermore, the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was formed on 4 August 1947 by J.B. Danquah and George Alfred Paa Grant.

Awake News however digs to find out what Mr. Akufo-Addo’s uncle JB Danquah wrote to the British King at the time about That Man Kwame Nkrumah’s plan for independence.

Dear Mr. Obdam,
I exceedingly regret delay in replying to your two letters. That man Kwame Nkrumah, who is now Leader of Government Business has started his tricks again, this time, he, who is the Government, is inviting all the political leaders and chiefs to join him to send an ultimatum to His Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom for “SELF-GOVERNMENT NOW” and if rejected to declare Possitive Action-strikes and boycott, etc.
“There has been hectic activity all over the place and on Sunday we of the U.G.C.C. met at a great meeting and turned down his “challenge” flat, as being an invitation to criminal conspiracy against law and order”.
I had to be away in Kumasi for long periods last month and I am just now clearing up a pile of work…..
