National Communication Director of the NDC says he and his two National Executives are ready to appear in court for the charges of attempted kidnapping.
He told Radio Gold this morning that he and the two, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, NDC National Chairman, and Kweku Boahen, Deputy National Communication Director are innocent of the charges against them by the Police CID.
The three have been charged by the national Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for attempted kidnap and threat to harm, after police investigations concluded on audio played by Oman FM, a pro-government radio station.
In the audio tape, Mr Ofosu Ampofo was allegedly heard communicating with his party folks on the need for the NDC to attack the Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) and Chairman of Ghana’s Peace Council.
The CID invited Samuel Gyamfi and his deputy to answer questions based on their position on the alleged tape.
While Kweku Boahen, for example, admitted in a radio interview that the said voice was that of his chairman and that he was at the said meeting when his chairman made those alleged statements, Samuel Gyamfi held a contrary view that his chairman’s words had been distorted.
The CID, after concluding its investigations and interrogating the trio, had submitted its dockets to the Attorney General to decide on whether or not to prosecute the accused persons.
Samuel Gyamfi, however, told Radio Gold that their hands are clean and expressed their readiness to show up at the court, should they be served.
“We are innocent of the charges and we are ready to defend our innocence. This attempt by the government to divert attention on their poor performance and free-fall of the cedi won’t wash. The NDC won’t be intimidated by this diversionary tactics by the government,” Sammy Gyamfi averred.
