Member of Parliament for Ketu North in the Volta Region, James Klutse Avedzi, has taken on President Akufo-Addo for slurring former Auditor General, hence, described such action as wickedness.
Following a remark that, the Acting Auditor General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has done things Mr Daniel Domelevo couldn’t do during his tenure in office.
According to Dr Avedzi, there is no specific number of statutory reports that the Auditor General must report on to Parliament.
The Chairman of the Public Committee in an article said, “Please Mr President don’t think that we are children to always swallow petty statements you make to defend your wicked actions taken against people who are ready to fight corruption simply because you think that they will expose you”.
At a meeting with members of the Ghana National Anti-Corruption Coalition in Jubilee House, the President lauding the Acting AG for his professionalism reiterated; “The Acting Auditor-General has demonstrated sufficient quality and independence of view. For instance, he is responsible for some things that are unheard of. In our history, the 12 statutory reports that have to be compiled and placed before Parliament in the year of Parliament, this is the first time it has ever been done”.
Asserting, “Even the most touted Auditor-General before him never managed to do it and this one has done it”.
Addressing this reflection, Mr Avedzi said, “Article 187 (2) of the Constitution says ‘the Public Accounts of Ghana and of all public offices………shall be audited and reported on by the Auditor General’. There is no where in the Constitution that the Auditor General is required to present 12 reports as statutory reports to Parliament”.
“Mr Domelevo have also submitted a number of Performance Audit Reports. Notably among them are the Performance Audit report on auction of unserviceable vehicles by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Ghana Health Service. Another Performance Audit report submitted to Parliament by Mr Domelevo is the Drug Use in Ghana by the Food and Drugs Authority”, He added.
However, James Klutse Avedzi professed, “It is therefore erroneous for the President to make this pettiness statement that the current Acting Auditor General did things Mr Domelevo couldn’t do”.
