Wenchi High Court awards Techiman South shooting victims 45k each

Court

The Wenchi High Court has awarded GH₵45,000 each, to the six individuals who sustained injuries from state security apparatus at the Techiman South collation center during the 2020 general elections.

The victims argued that their constitutional right to life was violated as state security fired firearms direct into the crowd who were witnessing coalition and declaration of their parliamentary candidate.

However, the Attorney General thinks otherwise as it told the court the security only fired warning shots to deescalate the high tension.

The court disagreed with the AG and awarded the victims GH₵45,000 each though the lead plaintiff was demanding GH₵5 million and GH₵2 million for each of the other five. Adding evidence before it was not sufficient to be compensated such amount.

The sate is expected to pay these money to the plaintiffs.
