The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) says it will resist any attempt by the government to appoint a non indigene to them as the next Chief Executive of the area.

Speaking for the Council, Nii Amarh Somponu, the mouth piece of the TTC, opined that Tema would not trade its destiny with anyone who does not know the real needs of the people.

Addressing a pre-Homowo durbar for the people of Manhean on Tuesday, Nii Somponu, popularly called by his stool name, Nii Shipi, said; “If we have allowed non-Gas to become MCE’s in Ashaiman and West Tema, I must state that never will this happen in Tema. We have been fooled for years but not this time,” he spoke in the Ga dialect.

Turning to the enormous contributions Tema has offered to the industrialisation of Ghana, Nii Somponu expressed dismay at the sheer disregard by industries and companies for continuously refusing to give employment to the youth of Tema whose forebears willingly released their lands for the harbours and industries.

“Our main occupations, before Ghana was born, were fishing and farming. Our ancestors gave their lands to Ghana to build the harbours and industries. The youth of Tema are not asking for more apart from the government institutions on our lands giving them employment”.

“We have been demanding for this but since governments seem unconcerned, the real time shall surely come,” Nii Somponu stated.
