The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that it will not rush to court to seek redress following its rejection of the December 7 Presidential election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

It has, thus, called on Ghanaians to desist from stampeding the Party with calls to challenge the results of the polls at the law court if it felt cheated.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday, to update the media and the public on issues pertaining to the declaration of the elections, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC said even though the party was aware of its right to proceed to the law court, such decisions would only be considered by the party after it had done auditing figures from all polling stations across the country and gathered all relevant evidence relating to the elections.

He stressed that the party would therefore not be coerced into taken hasty decisions.

Various groups including; Civil Society Organizations, religious and traditional leaders as well as some Presidential Candidates who contested in the 2020 elections, have called on the NDC and its flagbearer to seek redress from the court if they disagree with the outcome.

The National Communications Officer of the NDC said: “Some people are saying we should go to court. Going to court is an option, but whether or not we will exercise that option lies in our bosom. Allow us to finish our audit, gather our evidence, allow the leadership of the party to meet and take a decision.

“After the 2012 election how long did it take the NPP to go to court? They filed their election petition case on the 27th of December. At the time they filed their petition, we had only 26,000 polling stations. Today we have over 38,000 polling stations. It’s the 17th of December and you have NPP people trying to stampede us to go to court,” Mr Gyamfi added.

He disclosed that the party so far had discovered a number of infractions, including issues of widespread vote padding in favor of President Nana Akufo-Addo, over-voting, absence of the number of verified voters on pink sheets and mathematical errors by the EC.

He said for now the Party would continue to use all available lawful means including; the freedom of expression and demonstrations to show their displeasure.
Mr. Gyamfi further assured Ghanaians that the party’s flagbearer remained committed to peace, adding that as a consummate democrat, he would not do anything untoward to breach the peace of the country.

Former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have continuously rejected results of the Presidential elections as declared by the Electoral Chairperson, Jean Mensa citing electoral infractions as the reason for its rejection of the results.

This sparked numerous protests among party supporters across the country.
