The Agbotui and Allied families of late Jerry John Rawlings have demanded that he will be buried in Anlo, which directly opposed the government’s earlier announcement.
The list of activities initially agreed on includes; the main funeral at the Black Star Square, Catholic Mass, laying in state at the Accra International Conference Centre, two-day hosting of traditional mourning by the Anlo Traditional Council and subsequent burial of the former President at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
This agreement had been announced by Caretaker Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on January 13, after a meeting with the Funeral Planning Committee, the family, the Anlo Traditional Council and other state agencies assisting with the funeral arrangements.
But, just three days to the event, the Office of the Agbotui and Allied Families has revealed certain revisions it wishes to see in the line-up going forward following a January 17 meeting held by the Traditional Council of the Anlo State.
This was contained in a letter jointly signed by the Secretary and Chairman, Napoleon Kwame Agbotui and Godson Agbotui, respectively delivered to the Presidency on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
In the letter, the mortal remains of the former President is expected to be delivered to them to perform the traditional rites scheduled for 29th and 30th January, 2021 at the Anlo State as tradition demands, a departure from the original arrangement approved for 22nd and 23rd January ahead of the state’s funeral performance.
The Former President Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, after a short illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
