Mr. Galo who also doubles as the Ashanti Regional Chairman to the Convention People Party – CPP told Awake News in an interview that their decision to kneel before the Chairman of the Council of State was their own decision after the Chief was angered by their decision to hold a Press Conference to boycott the election of the President’s nominee for the Municipality.

According to him,  prior to the election day, Friday, October 28, 2021, they have had series of meetings with the Juabenhene where he appealed to them [member of the assemble] to put aside any personal differences they have with the MCE nominee and vote to confirm him.

But on said the Friday, they got to the election venue only to be met with a huge military and police presence which he said they have never seen in their area before adding they feel so harassed, intimidated and threatened hence their decision to boycott the election.

He said it was during the Press Conference that the Jubenhene sent them a message and upon reaching the palace the Chief was angered by their decision to hold a press conference and not coming to inform him first about the happenings at the election grounds. It was at this point that one of his sub-chiefs asked them to kneel and apologize for their action which the sub-chief said was disrespect towards their paramount chief.

Mr. Galo maintained that the election never took place rather it was later agreed that the election will be held on Monday.

He said when the Presiding Member of the Assembly was asked about the deployed the heavily armed joint-military and police at the voting grounds, the PM told them the military and the police officers told him they were on their retinue activity.
