Some Ghanaians have taken to their social media pages to kick against the yet-to-be-aired Address To The Nation by President Akudo-Addo saying they are not interested in any of his long and empty talks.
To them, the President should just resign and not come and waste their time with any speech as he has so far proven that he has nothing better to offer Ghanaians than unprecedented hardships, corruption, excessive borrowing, reckless expenditure, and failed promises.
Already, there are a series of planned demonstrations being organized by a private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu and FixTheCountry Movement starting from Accra on November 5, 2022 under social media hashtags #JustResign and #NanaMustGo to force the President to resign.
Last week, the Majority Group ruling New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament called on the President to remove the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, and his Deputy, Charles Adu Boahene from office or they boycott any government business in the house. This action is the first of its kind coming from a ruling party MP in parliament.
However, they were softened by the President’s pleading to allow the Finance Minister to complete the IMF negotiations and the presentation of the 2023 budget which many Ghanaians and former President Mahama disagreed.
Now, the pressure is mounting on the President’s own resignation.
Ghana is currently experiencing an economic hardship that has never hit the country before since its return to Democratic rule in 1992.
The country’s inflation is correctly over 30% with prices of goods and services increasing on the market on daily basis.
Fuel prices have hit an astronomical height of 15ghc per liter for petrol and 17ghc per liter for diesel.
The dollar which was being sold at 7ghc a few months ago is now being sold at 15ghc.
